Homage to Goya (1824-2024). 200 years since the artist's arrival in Bordeaux

13 December 2024-13 April 2025.

Temporary display, Actualités Room, Lacour wing

Presented to mark the bicentenary of Goya’s (1746-1828) arrival in Bordeaux, where the artist spent the last four years of his life in self-exile for political reasons, this exhibition of approximately twenty works presents the entire collection of prints by the Spanish master conserved at the museum: four etchings on the subject of bullfighting made in Bordeaux, including the only print of Bullfight, and a series of ten older etchings made after masterpieces by Velázquez, now on display in the Prado museum: equestrian portraits of the royal family, court jesters, etc.

Alongside this collection, the museum is presenting the “Homage to Goya” series of etchings by Odilon Redon, who was a great admirer of the artist.
The exhibition will reveal a unique facet of Goya's visionary genius until 13 April 2025, as a foretaste of 2028 and commemorations to mark the artist’s death in Bordeaux.
